Class Description:

The Introduction to Pistol Red Dots (107) is an 4-hour beginner pistol class designed for those new to slide mounted pistol optics. Students will learn about modern miniature red dot sights (MRDS) to include benefits, limitations, types, features and how to use them. Instructions for the proper installation is covered as well as confirming proper installation for those attending with MRDS already installed. Different types of zeros and maximum point blank range theory is covered. Each student will learn how to properly zero their optic at the 10 yard line for the purpose of this class.

Basic shooting drills at various distances will include how to mount the pistol for optimal red dot vision from the ready position. Shooting drills will advance to multiple round, rapid fire at various distances. Subjects such as how to find the dot during presentation, track the dot during shooting and finding the dot after gun manipulations are covered with shooting drills to support. Recommended maintenance and cleaning along with best practices for battery replacement for pistol red dots are covered. A final graded evolution will provide instant feedback on areas of improvement and useful shooting drills to continue to build skill and confidence.

  • Defensive Pistol with slide mounted red dot sight (9mm recommended)
  • 250 rounds of factory pistol ammunition
  • 3 pistol magazines minimum
  • Range attire: long pants, comfortable shirt, athletic shoes and ball cap

Course Description:

The Advanced Pistol Movement (306) is an advanced pistol course designed to develop a mobile pistol firing platform. Students will learn to effectively engage targets on the move from 5-25 yards by improving their mobility and stability while shooting. Direction of movement will be forward, rearward, laterally and linearly with a heavy emphasis on situational awareness and muzzle discipline. Drawing while moving in various directions along with pivots and turns to safely engage targets in an asymmetrical landscape. Close range shooting focuses on using an acceptable sight picture while long range shooting will focus the tactical imperative.

Subjects in the Advanced Pistol Movement include types of movement, directions of movement, movement techniques, acceptable sight picture theory and trigger control for movement. A major objective is the ability to move dynamically while engaging targets effectively regardless of range measured against time and accuracy. Supporting objectives include: athletic shooting stance, rigid gun mount, movement speed variants and sight misalignment demonstrations.

  • Defensive pistol (red dot sight optional*)
  • 100 rounds of factory pistol ammunition
  • 5x pistol magazines minimum
  • 5x inert training rounds for both (no A-Zooms)
  • Training uniform: long pants, comfortable shirt, athletic shoes, ball cap and gloves
  • Elbow/knee pads or shooting pad (optional)
  • Basic loadout: rigid belt, on the waistband (OWB) holster, magazine pouches and dump pouch (optional)
  • Clear/tinted wrap around ballistic eye
  • Hearing protection (recommended electronic)
  • Multi-tool
  • Handheld flashlight
  • Water, snacks, sunscreen and appropriate inclement weather clothing
  • Firearm cleaning kit and quality lubrication
  • Open mind

*Students are welcome to use RDS equipped pistols, but must ensure they are properly zeroed. Recommended zero distance is 25 yards for optimal performance, but regardless students must know their impacts at ranges from 0-25 yards. 

Course Prerequisites:

Tactical Pistol 2 or similar. The below drills are suggested as minimum skill requirements to meet the prerequisites. All drills are shot using primary carry firearm from the holster. The recommended target is the TRICON TCT-MK4 available from Action Target or TRICON B8 target.

  • Pistol Standard Delta; at the 5 yard line; from the holster fire 1 round with a 3.5 second par time. Repeat firing 2-3-4-5 rounds. Must be below par for each stage and score 105/150 or higher.
  • Pistol Standard Bravo; at the 10 yard line, from the holster fire 10 (9+1) rounds with a 15 second par time. Must be below par and score 70/100 or higher.
  • Pistol Standard Romeo; at the 25 yard line, from the holster fire 10 round with a 30 second par time. Must be below par and score 70/100 or higher.

Course Description:

The AR Pistol Techniques (213) is a 1-day basic course designed to introduce the AR pistol as defensive firearm for low visibility conditions. In this course, students will become familiar with the characteristics, features, and controls of the most popular AR type pistol. They will learn the pros & cons to ownership, shooting and setup. Close range shooting will focus on how to shoot the AR pistol faster with improved recoil management. Standoff range shooting will focus on how to shoot the AR pistol accurately with improved trigger control.

Additionally, students are exposed to a battery of drills designed to improve their shooting technique with both speed and accuracy standards. Subjects include overall capability, sling selection, recoil control, sling method and bag deployment. A major objective is the consistent ability to deliver rapid hits at close range then transition to accurate hits at standoff range. Additional subjects include accessory selection, pistol shooting method, bag/case selection, shooting positions, barricade use.

AR Pistol Technique
Using the brace
  • Demonstrate knowledge of firearms safety and safe firearms handling techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nomenclature and manual of arms AR pistols.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AR pistols capabilities and limitations.
  • Discuss cruiser ready and condition three for AR pistols and when to make ready.
  • Learn shooting techniques using sling tension method.
  • Demonstrate live fire sling tension method.
  • Learn to shoot using the pistol method.
  • Perform combat reloading and ammunition management training exercises.
  • Learn shoulder switching techniques both slung and un-slung.
  • Learn how to properly store and deploy AR pistol from bag or case

Course Description:

The Advanced Pistol 3 (301) is a 2-day advanced pistol course designed to master the defensive use of a pistol from 3-25 yards versus challenging time and accuracy standards. Testing for both speed and accuracy from 0 to 50 yards (where available). Graded drills make up the bulk of the curriculum, both prescribed group-paced standards and self-paced standards. Subjects covered included sight tracking, shot calling, self-evaluation and baselines. A major course objective of the Advanced Pistol 3 is recognizing the individual elements or micro tasks that make up an activity and focus on perfecting them through concentrated effort. Additional subjects include shooter diagnostics, performance dissection, soft vs. hard focus and drill design for improved performance.

  • Duty pistol, 9mm (red dot sight optional*)
  • 1,000 rounds of training ammunition (500 rounds minimum)
  • 5 x pistol magazines (8 magazines for single stacks)
  • 5 x inert training rounds

  • TRICON “Kilo” Drill: at the 10 yard line aimed in on the target fire 1 round. Then from the ready, fire 4 rounds. Then from the ready, fire 3 rounds one handed. From the holster, draw and fire 2 rounds. Par time for each stage is 5 seconds and must score 80/100 or higher.
  • TRICON “Delta 2”: at the 10 yard line from the ready position fire 1 round in 3.5 seconds. Repeat for 10 repetitions total. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
  • TRICON “Foxtrot 2”: at the 5 yard from the ready position fire 2 rounds in 5 seconds. Repeat at the 10, 15, 20 & 25 yard line. Must be below par at each stage and score 80/100 or higher.

  • Pistol Standard India; at the 25 yard line draw and fire 5 rounds in 10 seconds for 2 repetitions. Must be below par for each repetition and score 70/100 points or higher combined.
