Course Description:
Tactical Pistol 2 is a two-day intermediate pistol performance course focused on producing reliable, accountable hits under time pressure and realistic constraints. This is not a round-count class. Every block targets a specific performance problem, every drill has a standard, and every shooter leaves with clear diagnostics and a plan to improve.
Training emphasizes the core skills that actually limit performance: crush grip and recoil control, visual management, trigger control and follow-through, body position, and problem solving under stress. Students work from contact distance out to 25 yards, from the holster, on the move, one-handed, and from and around cover. Each block uses short, focused practice sets with immediate feedback and rapid re-tests to drive measurable improvement rather than just more repetitions.
The course is structured around graded drills and clear standards designed to keep shooters training at the edge of their current ability. Difficulty is deliberately adjusted using time pressure, target size, distance, and position or movement complexity. When performance degrades, constraints are reduced; when tasks become easy, constraints are increased. The goal is simple: cleaner execution, faster decisions, and fewer performance failures when it matters.
Students will train and be evaluated on:
- Grip and recoil control to maintain sight/dot stability and faster visual return
- Visual management for shot calling, target transitions, and consistent point of impact
- Trigger control and follow-through for predictable, repeatable hits at speed
- Drawstroke and first-shot performance from the holster under time pressure
- Reloads and malfunction management with an emphasis on economy of motion and visual discipline
- Movement and positional shooting (standing, kneeling, improvised) while maintaining balance and accuracy
- Multiple-threat engagement and problem solving under increasing task and cognitive load
- Use of cover including strong-side and support-side work, angle management, and minimizing exposure
Throughout the course, instructors use a deliberate practice model: drills are run in short sets, each rep or string receives one primary correction, and students immediately re-run the drill to apply that correction. Blocks close with a simple debrief—what failed, what changed, and did it improve—to ensure learning is actually taking place and not just activity.

This is not a beginner course. Students should be comfortable drawing from the holster, shooting on the move, and working around cover. The focus is on refining execution, improving reliability, and reducing performance failures when time and pressure matter.
Gear List
- Duty pistol, 9mm (red dot sight optional*)
- 1,000 rounds of training ammunition
- 5 x pistol magazines (8 magazines for single stacks)
- 5 x inert training rounds
- Range attire: long pants, comfortable shirt, athletic shoes and ball cap
- Basic loadout: rigid belt, on the waistband (OWB) holster, magazine pouches and dump pouch (optional)
- Handheld flashlight

- Water, snacks, sunscreen and appropriate inclement weather clothing
- Firearms cleaning kit and quality lubrication

*Students are welcome to use RDS equipped pistols, but must ensure they are properly zeroed. Recommended zero distance is 25 yards for optimal performance, but regardless students must know their impacts at ranges from 0-25 yards.
Course Prerequisite:
Basic Pistol 1 or similar. The below drills are suggested as minimum skill requirements to meet the prerequisites. Shot all drills drawing from the holster. The recommended target is the TRICON TCT-MK4 available from Action Target or TRICON B8 target.
- Pistol Standard Golf; at the 5 yard line, draw and fire 5 rounds in 5 seconds for 5 repetitions. Must be below par for each repetition and score 175/250 or higher.
- Pistol Standard Bravo; at the 10 yard line, draw and fire 10 rounds (9 reload 1) in 15 seconds. Must be below par and score 70/100 or higher.
- Pistol Standard India; at the 25 yard line draw and fire 5 rounds in 10 seconds for 2 repetitions. Must be below par for each repetition and score 70/100 points or higher combined.

Combative Pistol 2 (CP2) jumps right in and stays pretty intense. Accuracy remains paramount like in his other classes, some drills will tax you from a speed perspective but the accuracy standard never wavers. Lots of holster, 100% OWB, lateral movement and shooting on the move happens in this class (unless the class is overloaded skill-wise, to my recollection).
If you are fairly novice with guns this class might be a little bit like jumping into the deep end of the pool. I’m not saying you can’t handle it, just don’t get frustrated and don’t quit.
Jeff is a top shelf instructor.

I’ve taken CP2 three times and each time I leave with something new to focus on and my marksmanship always shows improvement as a result. The reason for this is how Jeff approaches pistol marksmanship. He will help you break your shot down and build it back up through drills that focus both on accurate shot placement but also speed. By focusing on both elements, you leave CP 2 with a grade (you can’t fix what you can’t measure) and a solid understanding of how fast your can shoot while still remaining accurate. This “throttle control” foundation is really how you begin to build any kind of practice routine for competitions or more complex shooting at night, on the move or in a tactical setting. This is the DEFINITIVE prerequisite course to take before you get into anything more complex. You won’t regret it and I assure you that there is no other pistol course out there at this level that gives you back so much for your dollar.
Jeff Watch –
This was the most demanding class I have attended. You had to perform on command all day long. It was also my first class that had a minimum set of standards to pass. You either met the standards or you did not pass. Jeff is a very knowable guy with a ton of experience, and it shows. He can look at your target and know what you are doing wrong. He is laid back, very friendly, but you will rise to the standard or you will not pass. If you are not making the standard, he works with you in a friendly manner and does not belittle you. Not all instructors are like that. We all had fun in the class, and it pushed each of us to raise our game on each shot. 100% recommend.

If you want to get the most out of the class leave the optic home. Go with iron sites. We had two full days of intense drills, however we all managed to keep our humor, with Jeff’s help. This class was challenging and demanding but designed to push you out of your comfort zone. I highly recommend this class to anyone looking to test their current ability or learn to improve on the their current skill level.
