Course Description:
Duty Pistol (204) is a two-day intermediate pistol performance course for military and law enforcement personnel only who want measurable improvement, not just more trigger time. The course is built around improving specific, observable shooting behaviors under time pressure and positional constraints using duty pistols equipped with pistol mounted optics (PMO) and carried in approved retention holsters.
Training focuses on five core performance components: body position, crush grip, sight management, trigger control, and follow-through. Each block isolates one or two of these skills, applies controlled pressure, and uses short, graded drills to drive adaptation. Students are evaluated for both speed and accuracy from contact distance out to 50 yards (range permitting).
The curriculum emphasizes quality repetitions, immediate feedback, and rapid correction cycles. Students will confirm and manage PMO zero, shoot on the move, work from and around cover, shoot one-handed, and solve positional problems. A primary objective is to identify individual performance limits, apply targeted corrections, and re-test until measurable improvement is achieved.
This is a performance course. Every drill has a standard. Every rep has a purpose. Every block ends with adjustment and re-test.
What You’ll Train
- PMO zero confirmation and point-of-impact management (0–50 yards)
- Crush grip and recoil control for improved dot stability
- Visual management and shot-to-shot predictability
- Trigger control and follow-through at speed
- Positional shooting: standing, kneeling, prone, supported, improvised
- Shooting on the move (forward, rearward, lateral)
- One-handed shooting (strong and support hand)
- Working from and around cover
- Performance diagnostics and sustainment planning
Who This Course Is For
- Military and law enforcement personnel using duty pistols with PMO
- Shooters who want accountability, standards, and real performance change
- Students who want to understand why they miss and how to fix it
Gear List:
- Duty pistol with a red dot sight* (WML optional)
- 1,000 rounds of training ammunition
- 50 rounds of duty ammunition
- 5 x pistol magazines (8 magazines for single stacks)
- 5 x inert training rounds
- Range attire: long pants, comfortable shirt, athletic shoes and ball cap
- Basic loadout: tactical belt, duty holster (level 2 or 3 retention), magazine pouches, dump pouch & IFAK (optional)

*Students using a PMO should have a rough zero. Recommended zero distance is 25 yards for optimal performance, but regardless students must know their impacts at ranges from 0-50 yards.
Course Prerequisite:
Tactical Pistol 2 or similar. The suggested drills are minimum skill requirements to meet the prerequisites. All drills are shot using duty pistol with red dot sight from the holster. The recommended target is the TRICON TCT-MK4 available from Action Target or TRICON B8 target.
- TRICON “Delta” Standard; at the 5 yard line; fire 1 round in 3 seconds. Repeat drill firing 2 rounds, 3 rounds, 4 rounds and 5 rounds. Must be below par for each stage and score 120/150 or higher.
- TRICON “Bravo” Standard; at the 10 yard line, fire 9 rounds reload and fire 1 round in 15 seconds. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
- TRICON “Echo 2” Standard; at the 25 yard line, fire 1 round from ready in 5 seconds for 5 repetitions. Repeat from the holster. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
