Course Description:

The Tactical Pistol 2 (201) is a 2-day intermediate pistol course designed to equip the modern gunfighter with shooting skills necessary for close range defensive settings. In this intermediate pistol course, students learn the essential pistol skills from 0 to 25 yards. Close range shooting will focus on speed, while shooting at distance will focus on accuracy. Students are constantly exposed to challenging drills designed to shoot under pressure to evaluate knowledge and application. Subjects covered include combat marksmanship, holster drawstroke, gun handling and multiple threats. A major class objective is a rapid drawstroke to deliver accurate fire at close ranges, measured against time and accuracy standards. Additional subjects include shooter diagnostics, movement, strong hand only and ammunition management.

Gear & Equipment:

  • Duty pistol, 9mm (red dot sight optional*)
  • 1,000 rounds of training ammunition (500 rounds minimum)
  • 5 x pistol magazines (8 magazines for single stacks)
  • 5 x inert training rounds
  • Range attire: long pants, comfortable shirt, athletic shoes and ball cap
  • Basic loadout: rigid belt, on the waistband (OWB) holster, magazine pouches and dump pouch (optional)
  • Handheld flashlight

Course Prerequisite:

Basic Pistol 1 or similar. The below drills are suggested as minimum skill requirements to meet the prerequisites for the Tactical Pistol 2. All drills are shot drawing from the holster. The recommended target is the TRICON TCT-MK4 available from Action Target or an official NRA B8 repair center.

  • TRICON 455 Test; at the 5 yard line, draw and fire 5 rounds in 5 seconds for 5 repetitions. Must be below par for each repetition and score 200/250 or higher.
  • TRICON Test; at the 10 yard line, draw and fire 10 rounds (9 reload 1) in 15 seconds. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
  • TRICON Bullseye Qualification; at the 25 yard line draw and fire 5 rounds in 10 seconds for 2 repetitions. Must be below par for each repetition and score 80/100 points or higher combined.

In this intermediate rifle course, students learn essential rifle skills & standards from 5 to 50 yards. Close range shooting will focus on speed, while mid-range shooting will focus on accuracy. A major objective for the Tactical Rifle 2 is the ability to mount the rifle quickly to deliver effective fire at urban distances measured against time and accuracy standards. The Advanced Pistol 3 (301) is a 2-day advanced pistol course designed to test modern gunfighter’s skill level. In this advanced pistol course, students are tested on both speed and accuracy from 0 to 50 yards (where available). The curriculum is largely made up of graded drills both with prescribed group-paced standards and self-paced standards. Subjects covered included sight tracking, shot calling, self-evaluation and baselines. A major course objective is recognizing the individual elements or micro tasks that make up an activity and focus on perfecting them through concentrated effort. In this intermediate carry course, students learn the essential skills for concealing and drawing a pistol under a variety of environmental and logistical considerations. Close range shooting will focus on quickly defeating the cover garment for fast shots on target. Stand off range shooting will focus on accuracy under time pressure. Subjects include concealed carry methods, drawstroke techniques, hand position, defeat methodology, supporting equipment and defensive mindset. A major objective is the ability to defeat any cover garment then deliver quick and effective shots to stop an deadly force threat. Supporting objectives include movement, choosing cover garments, verbal commands, ammunition management and strong hand only.

Long range evolutions will focus on delivering precise shots with primary carry pistol or deploying compact rifle/sub-gun for increased range, firepower and effectiveness. Subjects covered include: concealed carry methods, defeat methodology, compact rifle/sub-gun setup, discrete carry bag setup, fixed blade knife techniques, and integrated pistol/rifle/knife techniques. A major objective is maintaining the lowest visibility possible until the last, best option is necessary to stop an attack with either primary carry pistol or compact rifle/sub-gun and break contact. Students are provided real time feedback and corrective strategies based on performance and specified needs. Additional subjects include: movement, multiple threats, choosing cover garments, fixed blade carriage, sling tension method and soft armor incorporation.

The Advanced Operators Course (311) is an advanced 3-day course combining instruction and training for duty pistols and CQB rifles. Students learn to shoot both platforms equipped with modern accessories at their upper levels of performance, balancing both speed and accuracy. The curriculum is largely made up of graded drills designed to hold the shooter to a high level of accountability. Students are expected to have a high marksmanship knowledge level and demonstrable skills. Close range shooting with both pistol and rifle will focus on applying an acceptable sight picture and using rough trigger control. Long range shooting will emphasize understanding time, distance and exposure to score the fastest hits. Subjects covered include: proper zeroing, duty-level core competencies, gear setup, acceptable sight theory, evidence observed assessments and stress management techniques. *Students are welcome to use RDS equipped pistols, but must ensure they are properly zeroed. Recommended zero distance is 25 yards for optimal performance, but regardless students must know their impacts at ranges from 0-25 yards. 

**students wishing to use 38spl or 380ACP are encouraged to have extra gear such as speed strips, speed loaders and magazines. Pocket and ankle holsters are permitted after demonstration of safe gun handling from open carry strong side position. 

Course Prerequisites:

Basic Concealed Carry or similar. The below drills are suggested as minimum skill requirements to meet the prerequisites. All drills are shot using primary carry firearm from the holster. The recommended target is the TRICON TCT-MK4 available from Action Target or TRICON B8 target.

  • TRICON “Delta” Drill: at the 5 yard line; fire 1 round in 3 seconds. Repeat drill firing 2 rounds, 3 rounds, 4 rounds and 5 rounds. Must be below par for each stage and score 120/150 or higher.
  • TRICON “Bravo” Drill: at the 10 yard line, fire 9 rounds reload and fire 1 round in 15 seconds. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
  • TRICON “Oscar” drill: start at the 25 yard line, draw and fire 5 rounds in 60 seconds. Move to the 15 yard line, draw and fire 5 rounds in 15 seconds. Move to the 10 yard line, draw and fire 5 rounds in 10 seconds. Must be below par at each stage and score 105/150 or higher.

Course Description:

The LPVO Rifle (206) is a 2-day advanced rifle course for the professional gunman emphasizing practical application of marksmanship skills based around tactical scenarios. Students are tested for both speed and accuracy from 0 to 100 yards (where available) using duty grade rifles equipped with low powered variable optics. The curriculum is largely made up of graded drills designed to hold the shooter to a high level of accountability. Heavy emphasis is placed on mastering the following: body position, crush grip, sight management, trigger control and follow through. Subjects covered include: proper mounting, proper zeroing, duty-level core competencies, close-range shooting, supported shooting, positional shooting. A major course objective is identifying shooter’s strengths and weaknesses in an effort to sustain and improve throughout the course. Students are provided real time feedback and corrective strategies based on performance and specified needs. Additional subjects include: optimal zero selection, reticle familiarization, proper magnification use, POI familiarization, rapid fire techniques and unorthodox shooting positions.

  • TRICON “Alpha” standard: at the 25 yard line, fire 10 rounds (9 reload 1) in 12 seconds or less. Must be below par and score 80/100 points or higher.
  • TRICON “Delta” standard: at the 50 yard line, fire 2 rounds standing, go kneeling fire 3 rounds, go prone fire 4 rounds go kneeling fire 1 round in 15 seconds or less. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.
  • TRICON “Juliet” standard: at the 50 yard line, fire 10 rounds from any position in 60 seconds or less. Must be below par and score 80/100 or higher.

Students are provided real time feedback and corrective strategies based on performance and specified needs. Additional subjects include: backup iron sights, down optics, point of impact familiarization, ammunition management, pistol transitions and adjustable sling use.
